Exhilarating and memorable safari
We have now been back a few days, and Clive and I have got through Regatta, and we have all had time to reflect on the great time we all had in Botswana. You both asked us to report back to you on our experiences, and so the following is a resume of how we all felt about the trip.
All our transfers worked well and to time, and our short time in Zimbabwe worked very well, The Zambezi cruise was excellent and we took Trish’s advice and went to the Falls without a guide.
We had an unexpected game drive in Chobe whilst waiting for four other guests to join us for the boat cruise. The cruise provided some excellent game viewing but we found 3 hours was probably a bit too long as there was no loo stop, also we thought that at times the driver went too fast and too close to make the experience slightly environmentally unfriendly.
We didn’t arrive at Muchenje Lodge until after dark which made our evening a bit rushed, but we were made very welcome and had an excellent supper and we all found the Lodge very comfortable. The guide we had for our walk in the morning was knowledgeable and we all thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
The transfer Muchenje -Savute was more or less as expected but Savute-Kwhai took 8 hours which was far more than expected and our guide Peter was most put out that we didn’t want to go for an evening game drive! The tented camps were well laid out especially the setting at Kwhai, but thought they were a little close to others in both camps.
The food throughout was excellent and the camp staff friendly and efficient.
The game viewing was really brilliant we were so lucky.
The mixture of wet to dry game drives and from luxury to authentic accommodation was well balanced( even though the extra day at Muchenje would have been better).
The game viewing was excellent and varied.
We were probably not prepared enough for the extreme cold we had overnight in Savute.
The journey from Kwhai to Maun was a good 4 hours and not in an enclosed vehicle as we had been informed would be the case at the booking stage.
This though was an exhilarating and memorable holiday for us all and somehow we have to sort the hundreds of pictures we all took.
