Amazing holiday in Zimbabwe
Having arrived back in the UK I just wanted to let you know that Simon and I had an amazing 2 weeks in Zimbabwe. Your itinerary fitted our requirements perfectly and we were able to achieve not only all our aspirations but many more as well. The accommodation was all first class and covered a variety of types as we had requested, each with its own unique set of attributes. The directions worked well and all transfers were on time and friendly too! Spending at least two nights in each place was great as we had time to explore areas and fit in extra activities including amongst many, a visit to Oliver the plant conservationist and a morning bird watching with a guide, both in the Bvumba mountains, fishing in Lake Kyle and tiger fishing in the Zambezi. We were met with great enthusiasm and humbling kindness from all. My partner was delighted you had recommended we stay at the Bulawayo Club as he had read about it as a child and it totally lived up to his expectations!. Self driving for the first week worked well for us as it gave us the freedom to look around Harare and then stop and start as we wished on the way to Bulawayo.
Our three days in Hwange were fantastic. We were able to get so close to the wildlife and had two excellent guides who made it even more special. The accommodation was sheer luxury – only the disruption of the water system by the elephants one morning reminded us we were camping! On our last morning we even awoke to see a lioness followed by two males passing in front of our bedroom window!
Two comments only for the benefit of future travelers were that
a) as suspected it was dark by the time we got the hire car sorted at Harare airport and pouring with rain too, so the GPS system we brought with us was very helpful in navigating the roads to Wild Geese Lodge. Managing without would have been quite difficult and not a good introduction to driving in Harare.
b) for most of our journeys the Hyundai saloon we hired was ideal and very economical. However it became less suitable when required to go on dirt roads eg to visit Oliver, get to the Frog and Fern etc and we visited in the very driest of weather. It was certainly not the vehicle to take into the Matobo game park where we were driving up dry river beds for much of the time!. Fortunately my partner enjoyed the challenge but a notice at the gate to warn of the need of a 4 x 4 vehicle would have been very useful!
So many many thanks for helping to make my return to Zimbabwe so exciting, emotional and rewarding. We had the most spectacular two weeks and will recommend you and Zambezi Safari and Travel to anyone interested in exploring sub Saharan Africa. I am very keen to explore West Africa so am sure we will be in contact with you again in the future.
PS Also a big thank you to yourself and the girls for the lovely card and gift found on our bed at Lorries. It was a lovely touch and much appreciated. Thanks also to Helen for her efficient administration of vouchers, directions etc.
