Cape Town
When the words ‘Cape Town’ are mentioned, anybody who has ever visited this stunning city will immediately conjure up images of beautiful rugged coastline, some incredibly lush and colourful vegetation, and of course the plateau of Table Mountain overlooking the whole scene. At the southern most tip of Africa, Cape Town is one of the most striking cities on the continent, and any visit here will leave you wanting to overstay your visit and explore the various fascinating areas more thoroughly!
With the sea at the doorstep, the most obvious thing to do here is to enjoy it. The Atlantic and the Indian Oceans meet around this edge of the continent, creating some surprising wave patterns that can be thrilling to watch as huge collisions seem to happen in water clear of any obstacles; these are the currents meeting each other around the Cape, and the conditions here are unique to the seas around this area. As a result of this the seas are surprisingly rich, and are home to a variety of animals which include penguins and seals which can be seen on the land and in water. The beaches around the area are magnificent, and a wonderful way to enjoy the oceans.![]()
The panoramic aspect of this beautiful country can be admired from the top of Table Mountain, where the land is laid out before you with a variety of contrasting colours and textures to take your breath away. Views of sunset from up here are particularly spectacular, and are made all the better with a refreshing drink in your hand to partake in an African tradition that will become part of your own life very quickly; sundowners.
For those who love nature, there are a large number of trails and hikes to go on, with the endemic fynbos plant providing colour and texture along the way, and the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens are perfect for botanists. These gardens grow only plants which are found in South Africa, and with a large area to explore can be a wonderful way to spend the afternoon.
Shopping centres filled to the brim with the latest fashions as well as some of the more traditional curios to be found in such a popular tourist destination make this the shopaholics paradise; what better way to enjoy your shopping than to do it in one of the prettiest places in the world?
