Lusaka
A hodge podge of buildings, Lusaka is a typical African city with a bit of first world with its internet cafes, fancy glass bank buildings and new shopping malls alongside colonial buildings with wide tree lined streets. Market stalls manned by their owner entrepreneurs jostle between the solid buildings, offering any and all types of goods.
With little formal planning the city has grown organically and forms a vibrant crossways of roads leading north, west, east and south. Lusaka airport is 14km from the city centre and well serviced by taxis and buses or privately arranged vehicles. A range of hotels offer reasonable overnight accommodation including the Holiday Inn, Taj Pamodzi and Chaminuka – a private game reserve 45 minutes from the airport.

The Zambia Explorer uses camps which are extremely comfortable, small and intimate and all with en suite bathroom with hot and cold running water. On the walks, which are taken at a slow pace (not an army route march), there are porters who carry refreshments and any extra equipment you may wish to take. The drives are in open four wheel drive vehicles, with 3 tier seats for uninhibited viewing, and no more than 6 people are taken at a time to avoid discomfort in the vehicle. Boating, Canoeing and fishing on the lower Zambezi is available as a morning or afternoon excursion - the choice is yours!
Lusaka is the main hub for entering and departing from Zambia although Livingstone is also pretty busy! From Lusaka connect to the South Luangwa National Park or Kafue National Park and down to the Lower Zambezi National Park.
By road travel from Lusaka through to Kariba, the border post and entry point to Zimbabwe.
