Private Islands

Private Islands

The Private Islands of the Seychelles are small, exclusive, and amazingly luxurious. These islands include Sainte Anne, Taj Denis Island, Alphonse Island, Bird Island, Frégate Island, North Island, Desroches and Cousine Island, and each is special and individual, guaranteeing one of the most luxurious beach holidays you will ever experience.

Sainte Anne is a private island that is just ten minutes from Mahé on a boat, or helicopter transfers can be arrange to ensure a breathtaking first sight of the island that is to be your home for a few days. With water that is the very definition of crystal-clear, and located in a marine reserve, the snorkelling and diving here is world class, and it can be enjoyed from a distance on the pristine beaches. Included in a trip to the island is a variety of activities that include pedaloes and glass-bottoms boat trips that are free of charge, whilst at a small extra cost deep-sea fishing can be arranged. Luxury yachts are also available and can be used to explore the surrounding small islands and seas at your leisure.
One of the most alluring features of this island is the fully equipped Clarins spa that is dedicated to pampering and spoiling you, and does so in some of the most beautiful – and relaxing – surroundings available anywhere.

Taj Denis Island is a tropically forested island which has a ring of beaches that completes a full circuit all the way around the islands coast - the sense of tranquillity is completed by the ever present ocean. Again with outstanding diving and snorkelling, the island also has a tennis court and jogging trail for those interested in keeping fit, as well as big-game, deep-sea and fly-fishing for the enthusiastic anglers.

Alphonse Island is surrounded by extensive reefs, and has a tranquil lagoon that makes for excellent diving and fishing. With palm trees present all around the island creating a pleasant atmosphere as they sway in the wind, the beaches are idyllic places to spend an afternoon. With a tennis court and bicycles to explore the island available as well, those who are looking for a bit more adventure, this is a good place to combine the two.

With a Creole-style restaurant and less formal beach restaurant, Desroches Island is ideal if you want to let your hair down. With snorkelling and biking available, you can spend your days exploring the enchanted island, and relax in the evening with barbecue dinners that mix the formality of long trousers and collared shirts with stunning locations and the luxury of being able to leave your shoes behind. This eclectic mix all adds to the charm of the islands and with accommodation offering perfect privacy, this is the place to get away from it all.

Bird Island has exotic birds and turtles that are annual visitors on the most northern island in the archipelago. Species of bird that are very popular here include sooty terns, fairy terns and common noddys, and birdwatching is a popular occupation on the island. To explore the seas, snorkelling and glass-bottoms boats are available, whilst there are nature trails and viewing platforms for all to use. Water sports that allow you to enjoy a more active side of the water are canoeing and sailing, that help you to relax and enjoy the tiny coral island in complete luxury.

Another private island, Frégate Island has enough top-class beaches to allow you to go to one every day of the week, and still not have visited them all. The forest on the island is untouched, and the ingredients in the restaurant are largely taken from the surroundings, giving one of the freshest meals you could possibly have. Water sports are again offered here, and include dingy sailing, windsurfing, and the usual snorkelling, diving and fishing.

For the ultimate in romance
, North Island is the place to be. With five-star standards and environmental projects working to protect the local flora and fauna in which the accommodation is nestled, the ambience of the island here is outstanding. With four beaches to try out, and electric 4x4 buggies for you to explore the island on, left to your own devices you will be more than able to keep yourself happy. For those who want to try out other activities, scuba-diving, snorkelling, fly-fishing, sea kayaking, boating and island hopping are all part of the parcel, and your stay here will fly by in a haze of indulgence. We feature this island as part of our honeymoon and wedding arrangements.

Cousine Island is the last of the private islands, and as the smallest granite island in the Seychelles, one of the most exciting. With limited space for humans, you are guaranteed to have complete privacy, and with reefs that look stunning from above the water, the underwater beauty is even more amazing. The island is a private nature reserve, and it protects species such as magpie robins, fairy terns, hawksbill turtles and green turtles. These have no predators on the island, so you are able to approach them closely and observe them at distances that are not normally possible. At night there is star-gazing and turtle-watching available, whilst nature trails, scuba-diving and fishing can be enjoyed during the day. Just five minutes from Praslin, this is the ultimate in deserted island heaven.

We strongly recommend combining a visit to Seychelles with a safari in Kenya which makes an ideal honeymoon.

Apart from thinking about the other Seychelle Islands of La Digue, Praslin and Mahé, fine beaches exist on the African coastline.

Madagascar has fine beaches and of course these can be combined with seeing the islands unique wildlife. Mauritius offers a vibrant culture in addition to its lovely beaches and further south Mozambique has a pristine set of beaches with a more "African" culture than the gentler Seychelles.
