Shinde

Shinde

During the drier months this is a very good area to visit, where game viewing includes species like sable antelope, large herds of lechwe and high densities of lion. The area itself has lush floodplains with stands of papyrus and islands of tall palm trees. Deep water channels allow makoro excursions throughout the season right from camp.

Although most of the activities are water based, there are good overnight walking safaris using fly camps from Shinde as well as game drives. This camp is best visited in the dry season between April to October or early November, otherwise activities can be severely limited.

Lion mating at Shinde

This area is very similar to the Kwara Reserve although there is deeper water due to several deep rivers which pass through it. Game viewing includes some elephant, usually large male bulls. Impala, lechwe, tsessebe, and sitatunga are common but not easily seen amongst the reedbeds. Of interest are the otters which enjoy the deep waters where it is easier to catch fish. The usual predators - lion, leopard, wild dog and hyena are also seen frequently.
