The following is a brief overview of the different payment methods that we use.  Please note that:
  • no reservation is confirmed without receipt of a deposit unless agreed to in writing and no vouchers are issued unless full payment has been received and acknowledged by us

  • our normal terms for booking a safari are 10% deposit with the final balance due 45 days prior to travel

  • all safaris are quoted nett - exclusive of bank charges; any taxes, levies, visa fees and surcharges on entry, departure or in transit; gratuities and personal expenditure.

Credit Cards

We hold a Merchant Account through Barclays Bank for Visa and MasterCard and a Merchant Account directly with Diners Club International (in association with Standard Bank of South Africa). [Unfortunately we don't hold a Merchant Account to accommodate American Express transactions.]

In the case of credit card payments:

  • We require your card number, expiry date and instructions to debit your account - we provide a Credit Card Authorisation Form which needs to be submitted electronically.
  • The subsequent autoresponse needs to be signed and faxed to us prior to posting the transaction.
  • We then post the transaction electronically via BarclayCard. All exchange rate conversions as applicable are done on the day of payment, according to the Olsen and Associates Currency Converter (Interbank typical credit card rate).
  • We advise receipt number and transaction detail in our master document which is issued on confirmation.

If in doubt about use of your credit card please speak to your card issuer or contact us and we'll provide account details for a bank draft. (We were one of the first African-based companies doing credit card transactions over the Internet - "way back" in 1996 in fact...)

Bank Drafts

  • Bank Drafts are often a cost-effective means of making payment for the larger balance of a safari arranged with us and were always the traditional payment method.
  • Funds are held by us in a "client-designated account".
  • We advise all necessary account details during the enquiry and reservation process.

Cash and Traveller's Cheques

  • We are quite willing to accept cash or Traveller's Cheques as payment in Zimbabwe for Zimbabwean safaris - this is often done when making last minute arrangements on the ground in our Kariba, Harare or Victoria Falls offices.
  • Please note that additional taxes and levies apply for payments on the ground - Zimbabwean authorities are particularly sticky and a 15% Sales Tax is an add-on for the client's account.
  • We don't accept Cash or Traveller's Cheques for safaris in Zambia, Botswana and Namibia.

Special note on Sales Tax in Zimbabwe (applies to local residents or "foreigners" with local accounts - ruling applied from September 1998 - follow the news updates)

Sales Tax at 15% is due on any payment if paid within the borders of Zimbabwe. To clarify:

  • Sales Tax is not due if payment is made from any "foreign source" (bank draft, foreign credit card, traveller's cheques) prior to arrival in Zimbabwe.
  • Sales Tax is due if paid
    • in cash (irrespective of currency),
    • by foreign credit card or traveller's cheques on arrival in Zimbabwe,
    • in any local form (cash, local cheque, local credit card, local bank transfer or local Trust Account etc.)
