This intrepid self-drive safari is fully planned prior to your arrival. All private camp sites are pre-booked, you'll be given a fully equipped safari vehicle, maps and advice on where to stop for fuel, food and drink. Before you set off to explore the highlights of northern Tanzania, you'll enjoy a night in Arusha and a full briefing on what to do and where to go.
Where is it?
The itinerary is planned to include 2 nights in Arusha before and after the self-drive section, 1 night Tarangire National Park campsite, 1 night outer edge of Ngorongoro Crater lodge, 1 night Ngorongoro Crater campsite, 2 nights Serengeti campsite, 1 night near the crater on your return from the Serengeti, 1 night Lake Manyara campsite.
What is the best time of year to go?
The rainy seasons are late November to end of December and again April/May. We do not suggest doing this self-drive camping itinerary in the rainy season.
How to get there
The safari starts and ends at Kilimanjaro airport in Arusha. The price includes return road airport transfers to your first and last night Arusha lodge.
Tips and Notes
Driving in Tanzania is very different to driving in the western world and requires a confident, experienced driver able to handle a large, 4x4 vehicle equipped with tents.
The price is per person sharing on fully equipped 4x4 vehicle with roof top tent for 8 days. The costs do not include food, drink, parks fees (budget US$800 pp) or any activities/guides.
The safari includes x3 lodge nights on a half board basis excluding drinks.
