Horse riding safaris
To take part in a riding safari you need to be very honest about your riding ability - if you're new to riding, are accustomed to short 1hr rides or are thinking of trying it out for the first time, our one week or longer rides are not for you. We do offer short riding activities which you can book at some of our lodges on arrival. These are typically suited to beginners and novices and there are excellent horses for children.
A typical day in the saddle on a specialist horse riding safari, can last for up to six hours, rising at dawn and fly-camping under the stars at night. We offer a variety of cold and hot drinks, outstanding bush cuisine, hot bush bucket showers, short drop toilets and good hard riding.
There is no road riding, fences, power lines or human habitation; ideal rides take place with a maximum of six riders plus a guide and a groom. There is full vehicle back-up which accompanies all rides. The only ride we offer which takes place within a national park is our Hwange National Park riding safari. We also offer a great one week riding safari in the heart of the Okavango Delta. From the Okavango Delta we also offer a second choice of riding out each day from our fixed Okavango Delta Camp which opens up possibilities for families and non-riders to join in the fun. Exciting one week rides are available in Kenya on the Laikipia Plateau as well as the Chyulu Hills and Amboselli but again require riders with stamina and experience. Finally week long rides are also available in the Kafue National Park from 2009, ideal to combine with a visit to Victoria Falls.
