Primate Safaris in Congo and CAR
Rwanda hosts 9 of the habituated gorilla families. The gorilla families live in bamboo forests on the sides of the Virunga Volcanoes in the Parc National des Volcans and are usually the easiest to track and watch. In Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest has 7 habituated gorilla families accessible in both the north and south of the forest but with very steep climbing on some treks, particularly in the south.
Tanzania's Mahale Mountains provide a breathtaking spot to not only track chimpanzees, but to experience the magic of the Lake Tanganyika waters - as clear as gin and full of wonderful cyclid fish. Chimps in Uganda's Kibale National Park and Chambura Gorge are especially rewarding.
