Traditional Safaris
The most successful safaris are those which have a mixture of tented camp with lodge. The reason is the pleasant variation of moving from the more rustic semi-permanent tented camps to the permanent lodges which typically have more facilities like swimming pools and are usually equipped with extra’s like fans, hair dryers and all day battery charging (but not always).
The general pattern is to spend three nights in each camp which allows for two full days spent out in the “bush” discovering the wildlife and area. Spending just one or two nights means you have less chance to soak up the atmosphere, get to know the guides or unpack your bags. More to the point, you’re still spending just as much on the transfers which are the same cost no matter how long you stay at the camp.
We tend to vary a dry land camp with a water-based camp to which gives a changing pattern of scenery and species of wildlife. Hippopotamus and crocodiles will not be seen inland and neither will many of the great and glorious water birds.
Its also fun to add a night or two of fly camping or mobile safari if you want to really feel the bush but still have the comfort of knowing you're not "roughing" it for too long.

With just a little extra cost and planning, this safari is easily converted into a dedicated riding safari for the novice or the experienced rider and can include full or half day rides on any of the days at Chyulu Hills or on the Laikipia.

All camps are of a high comfort standard, small and intimate with en suite hot and cold water. All the game drives are in open four wheel drive vehicles with uninhibited game viewing. Boating and canoeing is also available in each camp.
This region forms the heartland of the proposed immense Upper Zambezi Trans-frontier conservation Area straddling Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Zambia and Zimbabwe - one of the greatest wilderness areas on the planet.
Keen photographers should stick with game viewing by vehicle using the vehicle to carry your equipment and provide a steady base from which to shoot. Of course if you're carrying a smaller, compact camera then walking and canoeing safaris provide a great variety of activity and different ways to enjoy the African bush.
In general look at our safaris in Kenya, Botswana, Zambia and Zimbabwe for options covering all three types of safari.
