Destinations intro | Zimbabwe | Zambia | Botswana | Namibia

A "scenic route" of Southern Africa's safari destinations - maps, descriptions, safari listings, recommended tours, photo galleries, travel tips, hints and more...

Zimbabwe

Despite political chaos since 2000, Zimbabwe remains one of the prime safari spots in Africa.

Victoria Falls, (World Heritage Site, largest curtain on falling water on earth, wildest one-day rafting on the planet) is an obvious attraction but Zimbabwe also offers some of the finest walking safaris in Matusadona, Mana Pools and Hwange.

The lower Zambezi is prime canoe safari territory. Zimbabwe has the best Professional Safari Guides in Africa.

Zambia

The Luangwa Valley is the home of the modern day walking safari, the wilderness areas are relatively remote and the safaris on offer in Zambia are amongst the best on offer.

Guiding standards in Zambia are excellent and the safari scene is dominated by a handful of well-known "old hands" who have perfected the art of the traditional safari.

Zambia is definitely heading towards becoming Southern Africa's premier safari spot.

Botswana

A politically stable and highly popular safari spot in Africa, Botswana is synonymous with great migratory herds, its massive elephant population and some of Africa's best-known safari camps.

The scenery isn't grand and the crowds can be a problem but there are some very special places for the safari enthusiast in Botswana's wilderness areas.

Namibia

Namibia is not a huge wildlife experience but its landscapes and the arid harshness to which the wild inhabitants of Etosha, the Kaokoveld and Namib Desert have adapted is fascinating. The many other non-wildlife attractions of Namibia are well worth exploring.
