Mana Pools canoe safari – fantastic experience
Our Mana Pools canoe safari was a fantastic experience and exceeded all our expectations. Our guide Bono Lunga was superb and he and his team made the safari very special. They looked after our every need and were excellent companions in the bush. Bono’s understanding of the animals allowed us a very privileged close up view of big game like hippos, buffalo and elephants. His knowledge of birds, trees and everything in the reserve is absolutely first class.
Nelson’s cuisine was superb, really incredible if you think that he was doing it over a fire with one or two pots. He churned out scones biscuits and all sorts of delicious lunches and dinners including evening snacks. After a long day on the Zambezi we would arrive to find our camp immaculately set up and reveled in our hot showers followed by cold gin and tonics. We could not fault them on anything as they have perfected this form of canoe safari and what a joy it is to participate!!!!
The flights to Kariba and Mana Pools were prompt and the schedule operated faultlessly; we enjoyed our night in Carribea Bay Hotel at Kariba.

The most popular of our canoe safaris is our 4 day/3 night Tamarind Canoe safari. The trip starts with a pick-up in Kariba on the shores of Lake Kariba. After stocking up on drinks for the four hour journey to the launch point (or you can opt to fly), a simple picnic lunch is enjoyed on the banks of the Zambezi River. Then its time to paddle down the river to the overnight camp. Meals are cooked on an open fire and ablutions are basic (there are bushes and the river)!
