Trip of a Lifetime!
I’ve been home over two weeks, but have been very busy. I wanted to get back to you since now, as I think about the trip, I am even more appreciative of your choice of safaris for us.
We appreciated the tent camp in the Serengeti very much…it was just what I’d hoped for: small group, great and knowledgeable guide, and tents. We ended up with two couples about my age from South Africa who knew a lot about wildlife and were wonderful traveling companions. We all got along very well, and appreciated Raymond’s guiding, understanding of our interests, and his patience with us. The Ngorogoro Farmhouse was a very nice place to stay also, and Ngorogoro was an incredible place. We were very glad we went there before the Serengeti…kind of an over-view and it took the “newness” off of seeing the animals, so one can concentrate of the whole ecosystem of the Serengeti. Oldupai Gorge was fantastic….we’d both learned about it in school and were really happy to see it and understand where it is, and how that related to the search and discoveries made there.
Of course Twiga Lodge was a wonderful place to start. Erica and Paul didn’t have any other guests and treated us like old friends. They couldn’t have been more welcoming or enthusiastic. Paul treated us to a 6 hr tour of Arusha Park in his newly outfitted vehicle on our “off” day and we saw some of the prettiest scenery of the whole trip as well as lots of animals. It was a really good beginning. Erica even realized when we didn’t get picked up on time that there was some sort of communication problem, and she called the company which helped us from missing Lake Manyara on Day 1.
I already mentioned how much we enjoyed the Canoe Safari with Natureways. WOW…in some ways that was the best part of the trip. So peaceful on the river, such nice and interesting guides all to ourselves, beautiful scenery and lots of hippos and crocs to make it exciting. I hope other clients you have take advantage of that great trip (even in the flood conditions). We loved the rustic and spare accommodations which we are used to on our own backpacking adventures. Having Cloud and Kebo to guide, cook, and protect us from landing in the river was deluxe for us. Carribea Bay Resort was also quite a step up from anything I’ve ever been in….a fun place to enjoy.
Ben is in Scotland now and was equally as thrilled by all we saw and experienced. Thank you for your excellent choices for us. I’m only sorry I didn’t know where your Victoria Falls office was, as I would have stopped in to say hello.
I will recommend you and your company to anyone I encounter who wants to see and feel Africa. It was a trip of a lifetime.
