If Kariba is the launching point into the Zambezi Valley, what is the best way to get into Kariba?

From Harare/Victoria Falls/Hwange

  • The first option to save time is the daily flight.

Options from Harare

  • The Blue Arrow luxury coach should be given serious consideration if you have time. At Z$235 in a reliable, luxury bus over 5 hours, four days a week - it's a convenient steal!
  • If you have your own or a hired vehicle, the drive is a safe four hours. Watch out for game on the 77km Makuti - Kariba stretch.

Options from Victoria Falls

  • The Kariba Ferry over 22 hours between Milibizi and Kariba could save you the "back road" to Kariba via Binga and Karoi. If you're a backpacker you need to plan for hitching between Milibizi and Victoria Falls.
  • The "back road" to Kariba via Binga and Karoi requires a 4 x 4 vehicle.
  • An option is the route via Livingstone and Siavonga over 6,5 hours - the road is bad for about 80km around Choma - it's safe.

If you need flights into Zimbabwe we'll put you in touch with recommended agents.
