Kwando

Although all of Botswana is classified as arid, the main river systems of the Limpopo (East), the Okavango and the Kwando/Chobe rivers in the north have created a lifeline into the Kalahari desert.
The Kwando Delta is a huge concession of 232,000 hectares, totally unfenced and as wild as you'll get in Southern Africa, sandwiched between these river systems. In fact the whole of northern Botswana is unfenced and the two concession areas that make up the Kwando Reserve total nearly 1 million acres beween them. With Moremi Wilderness Reserve on one side, and on the other, Chobe National Park, the whole area acts as one contained and beautiful natural resource.
There are more elephant in the Kwando concession alone than the whole of South Africa which gives some indication of the scale and depth of this conservation area. Thankfully the pernament water which exists in the Kwando River on the eastern border and the Okavango Delta in the south allow not only elephant but huge herds of buffalo, packs of wild dog, lion, leopard, cheetah and many plains game to stay on the concession year round.
With only four camps on the two Kwando concessions this is one of the wildest and remotest areas of Botswana. A two week safari can easily be taken combining these areas, which will cover all wildlife and habitats the Okavango and Linyanti have to offer.
