Where is it?

The trip starts and ends in Nairobi (Wilson Airport).
The rustic owner run 6 banda "castaway" beach camp is situated at one end of a spectacular 12km beach, stretching from Kizingo (which means 'the point’ in Swahili) to the fashionable village of Shela, on the island of Lamu. Lamu is part of an archipelago of islands just off the coast of Kenya.
What is the best time of year to go?

Lamu Island visits are good year round avoiding May and June during the 'long rains' when much of the coast shuts down.
November to April is the season to swim with dolphins and snorkel, turtles are the big attraction between October and June.
How to get there

There are daily scheduled flights from Nairobi connecting Lamu to the Masai Mara, Amboseli and other safari destinations. Flights from Nairobi are included in the cost of this safari.
Tips and Notes

Green turtles come up to the beach to lay their eggs between late October and June. When the eggs hatch guests are taken to watch the newly-hatched turtles find their way to the ocean.
For a taste of village life a guided cycle ride on the mainland is a great way to spend half a day.
Hire a dhow from the local village to sail round the bay. Watch the sun drop into the ocean from the deck under full sail.
