A tiny mountainous country full of forests, primates and birds.
Nungwe Forest, Lake Kivu, Parc National des Volcans, Rwanda - 8 days/7 nights.
Where is it?
The safari begins with a night in Kigali before driving south to Nungwe Forest. Turning to Rwanda's north west, the tour continues on to Lake Kivu, a beautiful volcanic lake. Proceeding along fairly good roads north to Parc National des Volcans for gorilla trekking before once again turning south back to Kigali to end the one week safari.
What is the best time of year to go?
Rwanda is a year round destination. The best time for tracking gorillas and biking is the dry seasons from June to September, whilst for photographers the wet season is best as there is less haze and more greenery. This is also the best time to track chimpanzees in the Nyungwe National Park. November to March is the best time for birding as flocks of migratory birds join the native species.
How to get there
The safari starts and finishes at Kigali Airport in Kigali, capital of Rwanda. You'll drive from Kigali through the Rwandan countryside to Ruhengeri at the foot of the Virungas to experience both primate treks before returning once again to Kigali.
Flight connections are available to Rwanda from within Africa and from Europe. Speak to us if you require assistance with arranging your flights to Rwanda.
Tips and Notes
On your last day in the Parc des National Volcans, choose between a second gorilla trek, a golden monkey trek instead of the tour of the local area. The cost of the permits is not included in the price.
An optional one day add-on is available to Akagera National Park at the beginning or end of the trip from Kigali. As no accommodation of a good enough standard is available in Akagera Park you would return to Kigali for a second night at Kigali Serena Hotel (not included).
The trip costs per person reduces depending on how many guests are in the group up to a maximum of 4 person per vehicle.
Upgrade to a 5 star lodge in Parc des National Volcans is available.
