Tips and Notes
Along with some of the best diving on the planet, a host of other activities include snorkelling, kayaking, whale watching, castaway picnics on other islands and walking the miles of untouched beaches.
This idyllic Indian Ocean retreat is not just about luxury – first and foremost this is a conservation success story. Over a decade ago, the original visionaries of the Maluane Project visited the Querimbas Archipelago, where Vamizi Island lies. Vamizi Island and neighbouring Rongui Island are set either side of an ocean basin that is extraordinary - with its vast fish stocks, abundant marine life; whales, dolphin and turtle populations. Thus the Maluane Project began, combining tourism with wildlife conservation and community development to protect this unspoilt area. In 2005 Vamizi Island Lodge was opened. Through continued donations and a conservation fee charged to every guest, the Maluane Project continues to support marine research, community outreach and direct conservation initiatives.
