Canoe Safaris are amongst the most popular safari pursuits in southern Africa, they range from one day trails in the Okavango and Upper Zambezi to full blown expeditions on the lower Zambezi River. We concentrate on the lower Zambezi River and Lower Zambezi Canoeing map
  • review the full set of options ranging from adventurous "full participation" trips to deluxe backed up safaris;
  • look in some detail at the different canoe safari stretches on the lower Zambezi;
  • review a typical day's canoeing routine;
  • cover some of the planning detail (best times, access to the Zambezi, what to bring on safari)
  • and answer some frequently asked questions
White water rafting on the Zambezi River below the Victoria Falls has been classified by the British Canoe Union as Grade 5 - "extremely difficult, long and violent rapids, steep gradients, big drops and pressure areas".Zambezi Whiter Water Rafting (courtesy Steve McCormick)
  • This is a high volume, pool-drop river - little exposed rock either in the rapids or in the pools below the rapids.
  • The Zambezi white water rafting is internationally acclaimed as being the wildest one day white water trip in the world.
  • Options include one day rafting trips and rafting expeditions over several days....

Walking Safaris: some of our walking safaris were designed for the intrepid by the intrepid.  If you're looking for a wild time in southern Africa then go to our walking section and give it serious consideration...we strongly recommend some of the wilderness trails and seasonal camps particularly in Zambia and Zimbabwe...

Victoria Falls is quite simply Africa's "adrenaline capital".  If you've done the rafting then look at

  • Riverboarding - as Hawaii is to surfing so the Zambezi is to riverboarding
  • the "aerial options" - tandem skydiving, microlights, helicopter and fixed wing flips
  • Bungee jumping - up until November 98, the highest commercial jump in the world - 111 metres in 8 seconds
  • Explorers, Elephant Walk and the Kingdom serve the coldest beers in town (unfortunately the legendary Poacher's Inn closed a long time ago)
