We will be back!
Southern Africa Family Safari – August:
After a very successful trip we have just negotiated the nightmare that is Euston when all trains are cancelled!
We could not praise the staff at Chobe Safari Lodge, Botswana highly enough and we had a great time. All the guides were very well informed and went out of their way to ensure we had a good time. Good mix of activities and we managed to squeeze an Namibian village trip as an extra. Mike stopped for a leopard even when it was already past gate closing time and almost dark as he had hung around hoping that we might get a closer view of lions. Richard seemed a bit dour but worked his socks off on our fishing trip casting for our two kids who were rewarded by catching 3 fish.
Standard of accommodation was extremely good although bunks were a bit creaky. Food and restaurant service was excellent – stir fry always generated a bit of a queue which was a problem if you were trying to eat together. Zambezi Sun also offered exceptional service in a fabulous location. Trip to devils pool was not possible because water levels were too high but the Jacuzzi pool provided a good fun alternative. Transfers worked like clockwork. Flights very good. No problems with immigration in Zambia and no Yellow fever requested on return. Staff at Spray View in Vic Falls worked very hard to please and rooms were clean. Place felt a bit deserted. Breakfast was fine. We ate out at Mama Africa and had the best fish on the trip. Changed our day canoe safari as kids were tired and wanted an elephant ride – which was fine. Maybe would not prearrange so many trips as it seemed quite easy to organise as you went along. It was quite sobering to see the poverty on the streets and realise how protected we were in the luxury of the lodges.
Weather patterns bit unpredictable – our 4 wheel drive in S.Africa came in handy in the snow and we had a lovely few days in Cape Town to round things off. Will be back… one day.
