The Daily Routine on the lower Zambezi Canoe Safari

Day one:

  • Vehicle transfer from Kariba to the Kafue River, crossing the Kariba Dam wall and clearing Customs and Immigration en-route to the lower Zambezi River
  • Cross the Kafue River by ferry before launching the canoes into the Zambezi River
  • Packed lunch taken whilst canoeing
  • Canoe approximately 16km to the first night camp on an island


Day two:

  • Early morning rise, tea/coffee, biscuits
  • Start canoeing 07:30 to breakfast at approximately 09:00 - Full English
  • Lunch between 12:30 and 04:30 out of the midday sun
  • Canoe through to evening camp, arriving at approximately 17:30 for the second night stop
  • Total canoeing distance is approximately 26km


Day three:

  • Tea/coffee and breakfast at island camp before canoeing through the park
  • Canoe to island and set camp - spend the late afternoon exploring or relaxing
  • Total canoeing distance is approximately 22km


Day Four:

  • Early morning canoeing or walk for approximately 1,5 hours before take out point
  • Pack canoe equipment before returning to Kariba via road or boat transfer (seasonal rains dictate the transfer mode)
  • Lunch is taken on the return transfer to Kariba
  • 3,5 hour drive to the Kafue River, 30 minute ferry crossing, 1,5 hours to Kariba via the Dam Wall and Zambia/Zimbabwe Customs and Immigration.
